Runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

How it works

How to use WhatsApp Chat Viewer

  1. 1In WhatsApp, open the chat, tap ⋮ (or the contact name on iPhone) → More → Export chat. Choose “Include media” to see photos.
  2. 2Save or share the exported .zip or .txt file to your phone or computer.
  3. 3Choose the file here. The chat opens like it does in WhatsApp.
  4. 4Pick your own name so your messages appear on the right, then search or jump to any date.

Read exported WhatsApp chats on any device

WhatsApp’s “Export chat” gives you a plain text file that’s hard to read. This viewer turns it back into familiar chat bubbles with names, times, date separators, photos, videos and voice notes, so you can read an old conversation on a laptop, keep a record of a group, or find a message from years ago.

Everything happens on your device. The chat is never uploaded, which matters for personal and family conversations.

Frequently asked questions

Is my chat uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is opened and read entirely inside your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, so private conversations stay on your device.

How do I export a WhatsApp chat?

Android: open the chat → ⋮ → More → Export chat. iPhone: open the chat → tap the name at the top → Export Chat. Choose “Include media” if you want photos in the viewer.

Why don’t I see photos?

Photos only appear if you exported with “Include media” and opened the .zip file. A .txt export shows where media was sent but not the files themselves.

Does it work with group chats and big chats?

Yes. Group members get coloured names, and long chats load in pages so even years of messages scroll smoothly.

Can I restore this chat into WhatsApp?

No. An export is a read-only copy. To move chats into WhatsApp, use WhatsApp’s own backup and restore.
