JPG to PNG, right in your browser
Converting JPG to PNG is useful when you plan to edit an image several times. JPG loses a little quality every time it is saved, while PNG is lossless, so edits stop degrading the picture.
Some design tools and print shops also ask for PNG. Note that converting won’t add transparency or bring back detail the JPG already lost, and the PNG will usually be larger.
Frequently asked questions
Are my JPG files uploaded when I convert them to PNG?
No. The conversion runs in your browser on your own device. Your image is never sent to a server, so it stays private.
Why is the PNG bigger than my JPG?
PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression, so a photo saved as PNG is normally 2–5 times larger than the JPG.
Will converting to PNG improve quality?
No. It keeps the current quality from getting worse in future edits, but it can’t restore detail that JPG compression already removed.
Does it make the background transparent?
No. JPG has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the same solid background. You’d need a background remover for that.
